Bed bugs are the small nocturnal insects that multiply speedily if not
eliminated quickly. These creepy bugs can infest every corner of your house.
They belong to Cimicidae family, which feed on blood and are
commonly found in warm temperature places. Bed bugs are active only during
the night hours, according to research since they are very shy. To hide
themselves in the day time, they use desks, drapery, linens, nightstands, headboards, mattresses, artwork frames and clothing. A bed bug pierces the skin of
warm blooded individuals and draws blood using its two hollow tubes and
feeds on the body of a host for five minutes.
Getting rid of bed bugs can be very difficult. Although there are various severe chemicals that can be used which are quite expensive, they just might be causing harm to
you and your family. It is very possible to get rid of these bugs in an all
 natural chemical-free, eco-friendly and pocket-friendly method.
You should note that bed bugs were once a common public health pest
worldwide, declining in incidence through the mid 20th century. However,
bed bugs have undergone a dramatic, worldwide resurgence since they have now evolved resistance to common insecticides. While hotels are high on the list of bed bug concerns, any public place can be a haven for bed bugs.
Bed bugs are one of the great travellers of the world and are readily
transported via luggage, clothing, bedding and furniture.
To get rid of bed bugs, act at the first signs of infestation and use an
integrated pest management approach involving prevention and sanitation.
Bed bugs can be very persistent, so you will need to demonstrate a
greater level of persistence if you want to eliminate them quickly.
These DIY natural remedies will get rid of bed bugs in your home and (or)
office and they are easy to carry out.
Cultivate a cleaning and containing habit
The very first step to getting rid of bed bugs in your home is by cultivating a
regular cleaning habit. Bed bugs love a cool temperature and untidy places.
Get rid of things you are not using anymore in your home. You can either
throw them away or pack them inside a container. Also, wash your bedding
and clothing at high temperature especially those that came in contact with
the infested area; this will keep the bugs away from them. Examine
the corners of your mattresses regularly for signs of bugs. Try not to purchase
second-hand furniture and mattresses as they are more prone to be infested.
Avoid using pesticides and insecticides on toys or baby cribs also.
Vacuum everything several times a week which includes anything that is made out of fibres, such as box springs, carpets, curtains, mattresses and upholstered items.
Mint leaves
Mint leaves are natural repellents to insects and most insects hate the smell of
this plant and bed bugs are no exception. You can use mint leaves to prevent
bed bugs from entering your homes.
All you need to do is crush some mint leaves into smaller pieces and
sprinkle around the sleeping area or inside the cradleboard of small children. You can also put dried mint leaves packet between your linen closets and mattress. The mint
leaf will dry up the bed bugs in no time. Repeat this exercise every 3-5 days for
 best results.
Essential oils
Essential oils like citronella, eucalyptus, lavender, mint, and rosemary work better and faster in getting rid of bed bugs in your home or office. But make sure you are careful while using tea tree oil in your home with your kids and pets at home because it can be toxic
to them. This DIY tip is stress free for you to carry out. Put a few drops of essential oil on a small cotton wool and rub on unto your bed frame and at the corners of your furniture. Repeat this DIY tip daily for amazing results.
Turmeric powder
This DIY tip is one of the best solutions in getting rid of bed bugs in your
home. Turmeric powder includes curcumin, which is a strong
antimicrobial substance creating conditions not conducive for a bed bug.
The bug has to perish in these conditions after a few minutes. Curcumin
depletes the oxygen level inside the mattresses and this leads to death of the
parasites. All you need is a bowl of turmeric powder to get rid of the bugs.
Carefully spread the powder on the entire mattress and corners of your home.
Make sure you do this regularly to get rid of the bed bugs faster.
Baking soda
Baking soda also is a wonderful response to the issue of how to get rid of
bed bugs. Baking soda works very effectively in killing the bedbugs even
before you know i
t. It sucks the moisture present on these tiny parasites and this eventually
causes their death. You will need half bowl of baking soda and a vacuum.
Put the soda at all the places affected with the bugs and vacuum all the soda
after three days. Repeat the process and your home will be free of
 bed bugs in no time.
Cayenne pepper, ginger and oregano
If you have noticed signs of bed bugs in your home, you need to take
immediate corrective measures to eliminate these insects fast.
You can simply make a combination of cayenne pepper, ginger and oregano
 oil in getting rid of
them. It is one of the most trusted ways for this purpose. The spiciness of
ginger and cayenne pepper and the strong smell of oregano oil repel the
bed bugs. This DIY amazing remedy will make your home a pest-free place
to live. All you need is one teaspoon cayenne pepper, one teaspoon
grated ginger, one teaspoon oregano and one cup of diluted water.
Mix these natural ingredients together and boil for about seven minutes.
Strain the solution and then spray this liquid at the entry of the rooms.
Make sure to cover your eyes and nose while carrying out this home remedy
. Also, wear a hand glove. Do it regularly to solve the problem of bed bug infestation.
