Reports in Europe claim the Anfield bosses have told Barcelona to match their £150m valuation of Coutinho.
It is also believed that Liverpool will only allow Coutinho to move to the Camp Nou after first signing a replacement in order to avoid paying over-inflated fees for a replacement.
After insisting for weeks that their talismanic playmaker is not for sale at any price, Liverpool are finally negotiating a deal with Barcelona for the 25-year-old Brazillian.
Liverpool had previously rejected three bids – the last worth £118m – from the Nou Camp. With the transfer window closing on Thursday, the English club have limited time to buy a replacement should Coutinho move materialise.
