Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s kids are bearing the brunt of the former Hollywood power couple’s messy divorce.
Jolie,
41, and her six children — Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10,
and 8-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox — have reportedly started
seeking therapy two weeks after the actress filed for the divorce from
Pitt, according to People.
Sources told the publication that Jolie is doing her best to stay
“strong for her kids” after the split, and one way that they are coping
with it is by seeking treatment. “It’s been a traumatic situation,” said
the insider.
According
to the report, the actress and their six kids stayed in a rental home
in Los Angeles for the first few weeks following the split. Jolie’s
friends and brother, James Haven, were among those who stood by her side
while she and Pitt negotiated the terms of their divorce. “She did what
she felt she had to do to protect the safety of the kids,” the insider
told People.
“They
didn’t leave the rental house for days. It was hard for all of them.
They are used to more activities and more entertainment so it’s
difficult for them to just stay at the house. The younger kids don’t
understand what’s going on,” the source added.
The
“World War Z” actor has reportedly been doing a lot of reflecting
himself. A source close to the actor told the publication that he “has
been absolutely devastated and heartbroken by the events of the past
several weeks, both in terms of how those events have been wrongfully
portrayed and how they have threatened to jeopardize his family’s
ability to heal and move forward.”
While
Jolie is pushing for sole custody of the kids, the ex-couple reportedly
agreed on a temporary plan suggested by DCFS on Sept. 30. According the
terms of the agreement, the six children will stay with Jolie until
Oct. 20, while the actor will be allowed to visit, provided that he is
accompanied by a therapist during the first meeting. The whole family
will be required to undergo family therapy, while Jolie and Pitt will
have to attend individual counseling. The actor will also have to
continue voluntary drug and alcohol testing.
The
source close to Pitt added that the actor agreed on the terms because
he’s willing to change himself for the better for the sake of his
children. “Brad loves his children more than anything in this world, and
they matter more than anything else to him. He will do whatever it
takes to be with them, now and always,” the source said.
Meanwhile,
singer Melissa Etheridge recently shared his thoughts about Jolie and
Pitt’s divorce. During an interview with Andy Cohen on his SiriusXM
radio show, the 55-year-old songstress revealed that a divorce fixer
reached out to her after she said rumors about Pitt were “completely
unfounded” and “heartbreaking.” "There are people whose business it is,
whose job it is, to kind of fix things for celebrities," she said (via Entertainment Tonight).
The
singer defended Pitt against the claims and slammed those who were
spreading false info about her pal. "It breaks my heart that anyone
would take something as personal as your marriage and your relationship
and your rights to your children and do it as purposefully as I see it’s
being done,” she said during an earlier interview with Cohen.
Etheridge
added that after she was contacted by Jolie’s camp regarding her
comments, she wrote a song titled “The Fixer Blues,” since she was tired
of her words getting “twisted around.”
