BORNO State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Damian Chukwu, has confirmed the killing of 16 people in Konduga, while 82 others were injured when a suicide bomber sneaked into a Market square, yesterday evening, in Mandarari village of Konduga Local Government Area. Chukwu said: “The Command’s Explosive Ordinance Department, EOD, teams were immediately despatched to sanitise the scene and environs for general safety, while normalcy has since been restored.” This is contrary to some unconfirmed reports in some dailies (not Vanguard) and online media platforms, claiming that over 35 people were killed. Residents of Konduga had earlier told journalists that 39 people were killed, while 103 others were injured and are currently receiving medical attention at the University of Maidu-guri Teaching Hospital. Mandarari village is about 34 kilometres from Maiduguri-Konduga-Bama Road, which had witnessed series of killings and bombings in the recent past.
