Wenger refuses to blame Iwobi

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger refused to point the finger after Alex Iwobi’s own goal proved costly in their Champions League clash with Paris St-Germain, Daily Star reports.

Arsenal face the prospect of finishing second in Group A after PSG held them to a 2-2 draw the Emirates on Wednesday.

The French champions took an early lead through Edinson Cavani before Wenger’s men hit back through an Olivier Giroud penalty and Marco Verratti’s own goal either side of the interval.

But it wasn’t to be for the Gunners as Iwobi deflected Lucas Moura’s header past David Ospina in the 77th minute to make sure Unai Emery’s side went home with a point.

And although Wenger admits he was left frustrated by the way PSG’s leveller came about, the Frenchman refused to single out Iwobi for criticism.

“The frustrating thing I think is that Ospina was behind Alex Iwobi”

 “Look, it can happen,” said Wenger of the 20-year-old’s role in the goal. “The frustrating thing I think is that Ospina was behind him.

“He is certainly the most disappointed by what happened to him.

 “But that is part of the game.”
